Casio CA-53W: A mix of classic and future

Last month, I took a sight on one of the iconic watches, the Casio CA-53W or “Calculator watch”. The CA-53W was released on 1987 by Casio and has been featured in the movie Back to the Future and the hit tv series Breaking Bad.

It arrived within a week instantly after purchasing it online and I am ecstatic when I wore it. Finally, I was able to add another classic to my collection. Just to share, my classmates also took an interest on my watch and amazed by it’s feature. It’s also slim and fits really nice on my 6.5 inch wrist.

Casio, aside from being a notable watch brand, also produce a high-quality calculators. People’s attention were caught as back then, the watch looks futuristic due to its calculator function being integrated in a wrist watch.

Originally, CA-53W was only available in single variant, CA-53W-1, sporting a black case and strap. But in the early 2020, Casio released different variations of the CA-53 with available variants of white, black, and blue green for the model CA-53WB, and black, blue, green, red, and white for the model CA-53-WF with all equipped with negative displays (except the CA-53W-1).

Another interesting variation of this is the CA-53WPC, a special edition in collaboration with the videogame Pacman.

The watch features regular timekeeping, stopwatch, dual time, and mainly, the calculator.

Despite multiple variations, I still chose the original. The CA-53-W1, with all black case and strap and of course, the positive display for better view. I really love its classic look.

The calculator features helps me a lot especially if we have an activity that requires math and I’ll admit, I’m not good at math.

This is the watch that every collector must have. For less than $20 dollars, what can you say? This is also a perfect pair with the F-91W, both classic and suited for everyday.
